• At 8 years old, Yura immigrated from Korea to the US due to poverty & homelessness.
• Being a small poor queer neurodivergent immigrant girl in a white-supremacist heteropatriarchal capitalist world, life felt like a constant fight for survival.
• Experiences taught Yura that the purpose of their body was to please others & produce profit.
• Never feeling safe, Yura learned to dissociate & abandon their body as if it did not belong to them.
• In 2009, Yura escaped domestic abuse, and soon after, began practicing yoga.
• This started the slow process of learning how exist in the body again after enduring years of violence.
• In 2021, Yura was formally diagnosed with PTSD, PMDD, ADHD, MDD, & GAD. They began taking prescriptive medication as recommended by multiple psychiatrists & experienced extremely poor side effects.
• In 2022, Yura quit their professional teaching career of almost a decade after 3 months of hospitalization due to a PTSD relapse. They realized that working for an oppressive system while trying to change it from the inside was a really good way to get sick.
• From then, Yura decided to pursue a life long learning of trauma-informed somatic practices in hopes of repairing their nervous system and sharing those resources with communities who have less access to health & wellness education due to colonization.
• It is now 2025 and the world is literally falling apart. Genocides, trafficking, food deserts, water shortages, "natural" disasters, suppressive education, the list goes on and on. The earth & its people are being divided and poisoned and exploited.
• Yura believes it is time, now more than ever, to come together in resistance to fight against these systems for collective liberation & it starts with our breath.
